Objectives of Vidyalaya
  • To provide good quality, modern education including a strong component of culture, inculcation of values, awareness of environment, adventure activities and physical education to the talented children from the rural areas, without regard to their family’s socio-economic condition.


  • To ensure that all the students of the Vidyalaya attain a reasonable level of competency in three languages as envisaged in three language formula.


  • To promote National Integration by providing opportunities to talented children, largely rural, from different parts of our country, to live and learn together and develop their full potential; and


  • To, serve in each district, as focal point for improvement in quality of school education through sharing of experience and facilities


  • To provide stress free educational environment.


  • To provide good ambience to student and humanize environment.


  • To empower supervisory staff through orientation programs discussions.


  • Conference, visits to institution of higher learning to enable them to contributed effectively.


  • To help student to discover their talent and mould them accordingly.


  • To make class room teaching vibrant by replacing procedure oriented teaching / instructive approach where the student will be constructor by feeling.


  • To adopt holistic approach toward evaluation to assess a student on all parameters.


  • To organize games and SPORTS, co-curricular activity, outdoor activities to allow effective participation by one and all.


  • To enrich classroom teaching through educational technology.


  • To produce 100% first division and 75%distinction to prepare student for entire life in a big way.

  • We envisage identification and development of talented bright and gifted children predominantly from rural areas who are denied good educational opportunities. Objectives of quality education are sought to be fulfilled through effective academic, co-curricular and adventure activities, physical education, reasonable level of competency in three languages. We aim at the respective districts as focal points for improving quality of education through sharing of experience and facilities with continuous interaction with local community and helping these institutions to develop as centres of academic excellence.

  • The National Policy on Education 1986 envisaged establishment of a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in each District of the country. The first two schools were started in 1985-86 on experimental basis. The number of schools have now grown to 557 spread over 34 Union States and Union Territories. These schools have over 1.58 lakhs students on rolls. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are fully residential and co-educational schools covering classes VI to XII. Education in the Vidyalaya is free for all enrolled students including lodging, boarding, text books, uniforms etc. The Vidyalayas seek to promote and develop talented, bright and gifted children predominantly from rural areas who may otherwise be denied good educational opportunities. The Vidyalayas are affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and impart the CBSE curricula.Admission to Vidyalayas is made at the class VI level through open test conducted at District level by CBSE. About 35,000 students are admitted every year. Management The chain of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is managed by Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti which is an autonomous organization of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Secondary Education and Higher Education. The Samiti functions through an Executive Committee under the Chairmanship of the Union Minister of Human Resource Development. Union Minister of State for Education is the Vice- Chairman of the Samiti. The Executive Committee is assisted by Finance Committee ,and Academic Advisory Committee in its functions. The Samiti has eight Regional Offices for administration of Vidyalayas under their respective regions. These offices are located at places in different States. For each Vidyalaya, there is a Vidyalaya Advisory Committee and a Vidyalaya Management Committee for the general supervision of the Vidyalaya. District Magistrate of the concerned district is the Chairman of the Vidyalaya level Committees with local educationists, public representatives and officials from the District as members. NVS headquarter is presently located Kailash Colony, New Delhi.
